Start With Strategy

A leadership programme should solve an organisational problem.

Too many leadership programmes begin with a list of popular topics. The result may be enjoyable, but disconnected from the decisions, behaviour and capability the organisation actually needs.

The Institute begins with the business context. What is changing? Where is leadership performance inconsistent? Which conversations are being avoided? What should leaders do differently after the programme?

Suitable organisational contexts

  • Preparing a new or expanded leadership cohort.
  • Supporting transformation or a new strategy.
  • Strengthening succession and high-potential pipelines.
  • Creating shared leadership language across functions.
  • Improving management consistency after growth.
  • Repairing the gap between learning and application.
Programme Architecture

A coherent pathway, not disconnected events.

Discovery and diagnosis

Clarify strategic priorities, audience needs, stakeholder expectations, existing evidence and the capability gap.

Leadership framework

Define the shared language, behaviours and decision principles the programme should reinforce.

Active modules

Use cases, simulations, role play, peer challenge and facilitated discussion rather than passive content delivery.

Workplace application

Connect modules to live leadership decisions, conversations, stakeholder problems and business priorities.

Follow-through

Use reflection, peer accountability, manager involvement or later sessions to strengthen retention and transfer.

Evidence and review

Agree realistic indicators of behaviour and application before the programme begins, then inspect them.

Possible Themes

Content shaped around the required capability.

A pathway may draw from executive judgement, communication, performance leadership, influence, change, strategic HR, AI readiness or cross-functional trust. The correct mix depends on the organisational outcome.

Where specialist expertise is needed, selected associates can support delivery while the Institute holds design coherence and quality assurance.

Examples of linked pathways

  • Leadership under pressure and consequential decisions.
  • Executive communication and stakeholder confidence.
  • Performance leadership and difficult conversations.
  • Leading change and future-ready teams.
  • Strategic HR and organisational capability.
  • AI adoption, ethics and human judgement.
Measuring Value

Move beyond attendance and satisfaction.

Participant reaction is useful, but it is not the same as capability. Measures should reflect the purpose of the programme and may include applied decisions, observed behaviour, stakeholder feedback, completed workplace assignments or evidence of better conversations.

The Institute's Monday Morning Test asks a simple question: what can participants do at work that the programme helped them do better?

Evidence should be agreed early

A programme cannot credibly promise every business outcome. It can, however, define the leadership behaviours and application evidence it is designed to influence, then inspect what changed.

Questions

Corporate leadership development FAQs.

Can you work with our existing competency framework?

Yes. Existing leadership standards, values and behavioural frameworks can inform the design, provided they remain practical and connected to the required outcome.

Can this support an internal leadership academy?

Yes. The Institute can contribute a defined pathway, specific modules, facilitator design or quality assurance within a wider academy.

Do you provide blended delivery?

Yes. In-person sessions, live online modules, applied work and follow-through can be combined when that supports the audience and geography.

Can senior leaders and middle managers follow different routes?

Yes. A shared framework can sit across the programme while scenarios, depth, stakeholder complexity and application differ by level.

Design from the organisational problem backwards.

Share the strategy, audience and leadership behaviour the programme needs to support.
